Today in EDUC 134- Introduction to Special Education we had Miss Lexi Hocanson and Miss Gabby Wysocki as special guests. Additionally, we had five Japanese exchange students as special guests too. Our class period was centered around disability awareness and making new friends! Students completed a variety of activities with our special guests and had the chance to have great conversations. We can’t wait to do this again in spring semester.

Our COE alumni spotlight is on Tyler Carroll, congratulations Tyler!
Graduation or year you completed licensure: B.S. 2017 and M.A.E.
2020
Licensure area: AYA Integrated Mathematics
Where you teach and what grades or subjects: I teach at Upper Sandusky High School and this year I’ll be teaching Algebra 2, Advanced Quantitative Reasoning, College Calculus, College Algebra, and Introduction to Statistics through the University of Findlay.
What advice would you give to future teachers: Be involved in the school, not necessarily the committee side of it but the extracurricular side. Go to the events, band, choir, sports, FFA, anything and everything you want to! Getting to see and know the kids outside of the classroom makes the job so much better! And watching them grow is such a wonderful experience!
What are you most proud of in your teaching career: Knowing that if a kid is having a tough time, regardless of if it is in school or in life, they know they can come to me and I’ll be there for them without judgement. I’m so grateful to be in contact with students who have graduated just to talk and see how they’re doing and seeing the wonderful young people they are.

While some of our partner districts have not yet welcomed students back, our student teachers in Findlay City Schools are already on Day 14! They have been busy building relationships, and learning classroom routines. We are excited to watch them continue to learn and grow.

Our Primary Methods students explored Kelleys Island today. Glacial Grooves, fossils, butterflies, and microinvertebrates amazed and delighted these future educators.

Licensure area: AYA ELA 7-12
Where you teach and what grades or subjects: I teach 8th grade Reading and 9th-11th grade ELA at Pandora-Gilboa Local Schools.
What advice would you give to future teachers: Be brave enough to try new things, humble enough to learn from your mistakes, and flexible enough to change course when necessary.
What are you most proud of in your teaching career: At PG, job shadowing is a requirement for juniors and seniors, but we wanted our younger students to get a head start. Thanks to a team effort, we’ve launched a dedicated Career Day to help underclassmen explore future career opportunities.
