Our COE Alumni Spotlight this week is on Molly Fenimore (Corbin), congratulations Molly!
Graduation or year you completed licensure: 2013
Licensure area: PK-3, Early Childhood Education
Where you teach and what grades or subjects: Preschool Special Education
What advice would you give to future teachers: My advice is to always keep learning and be open to new opportunities. I did not see myself teaching special education in any capacity, but I have found it is a real passion of mine. I am always learning and trying new ideas to make it so my kiddos can successfully access their learning. I think it is so important to reflect every year and see how you can change and grow for the next year! None of us are perfect, and we don't have to be! Do not be afraid to use your colleagues and mentors, collaboration is key!
What are you most proud of in your teaching career: I am most proud of the classroom families I have built along the way. Preschool is the first stepping stone on my students' educational journey. I am so happy I am able to be chapter one in their books!

Our COE Alumni Spotlight this week is on Maddie Pryor (Bell), congratulations Maddie!
Graduation year: I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in 2013 and my Master of Arts in Education in 2017
Licensure area: Early Childhood Education (Prek-3) and K-12 Reading Endorsement
Where you teach and what grades or subjects: I am finishing year 12 at Riverdale Elementary School here in NW Ohio. I taught READING title one to grades k-5 for 11 years, but added 1st and 3rd MATH title to my schedule this year.
What advice would you give to future teachers: One piece of advice I would give future teachers is to build positive relationships with coworkers and maintain open communication, because teaching is truly a team effort and collaboration makes challenging situations so much easier to navigate. It is also important to focus on building strong classroom management skills early on. Clear expectations and routines help create a learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and eager and ready to learn. Finally, remember to stay flexible with your plans. Not every lesson will go exactly as expected, and being able to adapt while still meeting students’ needs is an important part of becoming an effective teacher.
What are you most proud of in your teaching career: What I am most proud of in my teaching career is seeing students who were once struggling readers and learners grow in confidence and become successful. Watching students overcome challenges, develop important skills, and eventually graduate is incredibly rewarding. It is especially meaningful to see former students go on to be successful after school, knowing that I was able to play a small part in supporting their growth and helping them believe in themselves.

Hometown: Convoy, Ohio
Activities at UF: I am in Intramural volleyball, and have attended UFOSEA meetings.
Why I chose UF: I chose UF because of the welcoming campus, professors who truly care for their students, and the best education program that gets me out in many school systems to set me up for success!
What I love about teaching: My favorite part of teaching is connecting with students and being a strong, positive influence in their lives.

The College of Education is sad to share that Patty Holcomb, Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the College of Education, passed away on Saturday. Patty was a friend to all, loved her family, and loved learning. She had a positive impact on the COE faculty, staff, and students. She will be missed every day. Patty worked at UF for 25 years, the COE recently celebrated her years of service at the last COE meeting in April. We appreciate all that she did to contribute to future educators, those that make this world a better place.

Our COE Student Spotlight this week is on Natalie Waltz, congratulations Natalie!
Licensure area: I am a dual major in Primary Education with a minor in Psychology.
Hometown: Rawson, OH
Activities at UF: I am involved in the University of Findlay’s color guard and wind ensemble.
Why I chose UF: I have close family ties to Findlay, which initially drew me to the University. Beyond that, I truly enjoy the campus life and the strong sense of community I feel with the people around me.
What I love about teaching: Teaching is a lifelong learning experience, and it gives me the opportunity to impact my students’ hearts and minds. When I was a student, many teachers positively influenced my life, and I want to give back in the same way that they supported and inspired me.
