The B-section Physics Club had an interesting set of meetings during the spring term in support of our new interdisciplinary engineering major in sensors. Topics included the sensors for autonomy, Robot Operating System, WiFi Round Trip Time and ultrasound for indoor positioning, and lidar. Prof. Ronald Tackett also gave a presentation on his new introductory course on sensors.

We had the B-section Physics Awards Event on June 9. We recognized students who had outstanding performance in introductory physics, supplemental instruction leaders in physics, and Physics Club officers. We also inducted Gabriel Johnson into the Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society. Physics Club provided lunch for the event. Thanks go out to all the students, staff, and faculty who attended and who work every day to make our program great!

We had an A-section Physics Awards event in person for the first time since 2019 last week on Thursday, March 17! Students received recognition for outstanding performance in the introductory course sequence, serving as supplemental instruction leaders, and serving as officers in the Physics Club. We also inducted a new member, Sivanesan Kaniyur Muruganandam, into Sigma Pi Sigma, the Physics Honor Society. Thanks go out to Physics Club for providing lunch for the event and to all the students, faculty, and staff for all of their efforts.

Physics Club, along with the Kettering Physics Department and Kettering University, are co-sponsoring this week's presentation about the McLaren Proton Beam Center by Lex Talionis.

When: Thursday, November 5, 2020, 12:15-1:15 pm
Where: Zoom Meeting (see link below)

Proton Therapy: What, Why and Where

It's closer than you think! Take a behind the scenes look at McLaren's Proton Beam Cancer Treatment Center. You'll find out what it takes to accelerate protons over 200 MeV, learn why proton beam therapy is closer to surgery than chemotherapy and take a look behind the scenes at your neighborhood synchrotron.
