Engineering Physics at work!

Romer Garcia '20, Engineering Physics major, is completing his at Shape Corp. in Grand Haven, Michigan. Shape Corp. is a Tier 1 automotive supplier of energy management systems and industrial components. At Shape Corp., Garcia has worked in the process engineering and tech center departments.

"The concept that struck me the most during my time here was of the Shape family," Garcia said. "In essence, it’s the simple idea that we should treat each other like a family working towards a common goal. After all, from designers, to the shop floor, to engineers, to technicians, we all want to make the best product we can. So by following this family idea, it helps all employees be open and respect each other. This helps reinforce the positive work environment. Even though I’ve been here a short time, it makes me feel like I’m already a part of the family."

Thanks to all the Physics Department faculty, staff, and students who helped to help out with today's activities. Thanks also to the university for providing the solar glasses for the event and the Physics Club for making the demos.

Students, faculty and staff gathered around campus to view the on Monday, Aug. 21. Flint saw about 82% totality, and those viewing on campus wore eclipse glasses or welding masks!

Doressa, Tina, and Tee, three Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) students working with Dr. Ryan and Dr. Cohen of Applied Biology presented their work at the REU Poster Symposium today, and will speak tomorrow about their research during the Physics Department Seminar at lunchtime in the PAL studio.
