FMU Nursing Students Serve as Veteran Guardians
Twenty-seven veterans and 24 guardians/staff with Savannah Honor Flight are traveling to Washington, D.C. this weekend. They departed Beaufort, South Carolina, this morning by charter bus bound for the nation’s capital.
En route, the group stopped in Florence to pick up three Francis Marion University nursing students and two faculty members. The students—Kaylee Rowell, Hannah Williams, and Aniyah Britt-Woods—will serve as guardians for participating veterans, along with nursing faculty members Tracy George and Marty Hucks.
While in Washington, D.C., the group will visit several memorials and monuments, as well as Arlington National Cemetery. A banquet honoring the veterans is scheduled for Saturday evening, and the group will return home on Sunday.
This experience provides nursing students with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of veterans’ needs while also visiting key historic sites in the nation’s capital. The trip is funded through a REAL grant from Francis Marion University.
