Follow along for their healing journeys, adventures about the farm, and pack pet therapy visits. Antoine’s journey is one of love, determination and friendship. Born with rigid paralysis of his hind legs—a complication of the infection Neospora, Antoine was rescued by Janet Curran, a longtime animal advocate in Kansas, and brought to Colorado State University for treatment. His subsequent rehabilitation led him to Connie Fredman’s Canine Health Resort in Colorado where he learned to walk again. Now his life is now filled with playful days, continued rehabilition and giving back to others as therapy dog.

Deanna arrives for Antoine’s weekly physical therapy appointment and an enthusiastic Antoine greets her and leads her to the gait of the homestead.



Video description/background: This video was filmed in Fall 2021 as Deanna, a canine physical therapist, arrives at our home for her weekly appointment with Antoine. Deanna has been with us since the beginning of Antoine’s healing journey since he was a paralyzed puppy. Antoine was born with a parasite (neospora) that left him paralyzed and homeless by six months old. He was treated for the parasite, had an experimental surgery to correct the defects in his legs and extensive rehabilitation that allowed him to walk again. You can get a close look at his rear legs here. One leg has a black custom made brace on it and his legs are wrapped in layers of medical and athletic tape. Who remembers this bizarre love triangle moment in the pastures with donkeys?



Video description/background: This throwback moment captures Antoine in the pastures with a bonded mother and son donkey pair, Pearl and Maverick. Antoine approaches and is shooed away by Maverick. Antoine is a survivor of the neospora parasite that left his back legs with abnormalities. He’s wearing a black customized brace on one leg and both legs are wrapped in layers of tape to protect against any abrasions.
