CSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University strives to help animals, people, and the planet.

Research at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has emerged from one grounded in the diagnosis and treatment of animal disease to one dedicated to improving animal and human health through a greater understanding of all living systems. While the veterinary research remains the heart of the College and forms the foundation of much of the innovative work at Veterinary Medical Center, societal demands create new frontiers for basic and applied science, medicine, and biomedical research. CVMBS differs from most US schools and colleges of veterinary medicine in that we offer undergraduate degrees as well as the Professional Veterinary Medical Program. CVMBS has three undergraduate degree programs (Biomedical Sciences, Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences, and Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology), 11 graduate degrees (five MS, six PhD), and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional degree. All three undergraduate degrees prepare students for the workforce, for entry to graduate degree programs, and for entry into several professional degree programs including veterinary medicine, dentistry, and medicine. Students get to work alongside world-class faculty in an atmosphere designed to help you succeed at Colorado State University. At our recent Indigenous blessing ceremony, DVM student Mikala Driscoll gifted this blanket to Mr. Harry Teller, a gesture of respect and connection with our tribal partners.

This Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize and celebrate the Indigenous students and staff at CVMBS, as well as our tribal partners, who strengthen our community.

Ayanna Toomer is graduating this spring, making her one of the first DVM students to experience the new Veterinary Hospital and Education Complex.

In a new Q&A, the fourth-year veterinary student reflects on her academic experience and shares her perspective on what VHEC means for the future of veterinary education at CSU.

Rams from across the decades came back to Fort Collins 🐏

For the first time, we welcomed DVM alumni celebrating milestone reunions into our new Veterinary Hospital and Education Complex. Nearly 200 Rams returned to campus to reconnect with old friends and colleagues, tour the new space, and celebrate the latest chapter in the veterinary legacy they helped shape.

Thanks to everyone who visited and made this reunion so special 💚

For the first time, researchers have found that dogs with cognitive dysfunction and humans with Alzheimer’s disease share similar patterns in the brain.

CSU researchers mapped more than 20 canine brains, uncovering a novel scientific connection that could help us better understand cognitive decline in both dogs and people.

What do you call it? 👀

DVM students JC and Lupita compare regional Spanish veterinary terms and show how much words can vary by place.

Your hobby can become your research lab 🧗‍♂️

Environmental public health student Caleb is a rock climber who started wondering about the air quality at the climbing wall, where chalk dust is kicked up.

With mentor Luke Montrose, he used a wearable air-quality monitor to study what was actually in the air. And then they put the research into action, working with CSU’s Lory Student Center to make HVAC changes designed to improve air quality at the climbing wall.

A pretty cool example of taking something you notice in everyday life and turning it into research that makes a difference. Take a deeper dive into this story and how it all came together: https://source.colostate.edu/does-climbing-chalk-affect-air-quality/

The Boettcher Foundation has a long history of philanthropic support across Colorado. When it came to CSU’s new Veterinary Hospital and Education Complex, they saw more than a new building. They saw an opportunity to help advance the future of veterinary medicine.

We’re deeply grateful for their support and for the way they chose to honor Dr. Tony Frank by celebrating the people who have shaped veterinary medicine at CSU.

We're celebrating $3 million in NIH funding to advance Parkinson’s disease research 🙌

The work, led by Amanda Woerman and her lab, builds on their recent discovery of an unknown variant of Parkinson’s disease dementia. Now, they’ll spend the next five years studying this and what it could teach us about stopping disease progression.
