Political science alum John Weltzien ('76) found more than a degree at Colorado State University, he found a passion and career for bowling through the university’s team. 🎳

Weltzien first joined CSU’s collegiate bowling team as a freshman, helping lead the Rams to their first collegiate national bowling championship. He went on to become a professional bowler, notably winning the 1994 American Bowling Congress Singles Championship against more than 46,000 other bowlers.

Over 50 years later, his connection to CSU is still persistent in his life. His bowling league is proudly named “CSU,” which he still plays on today.

A new chapter for CLA ✨

After a long period of construction, Clark Hall is finally open, and the newly renovated space was well worth the wait!

Just a few feet away, the former Clark C was renamed and refreshed over the summer as well. Now known as Social Sciences Hall, the building underwent minor advancements before reopening this fall.. 🔨👷‍♂️

Lights, Audience, Action ✨ It was a big show last week to cap off the Center Stage Youth Art Camp here at CSU Spur!

Over the course of the week (and another group the week before!), students dove into the foundations of theatre, guided by CSU faculty members, CSU Theatre and Dance students, and special guest artists. They acted, sang, and danced their way through five days of creativity, and by the time the week wrapped up, parents, friends, and the community packed in to watch them shine on stage and celebrate everything they'd accomplished.

CSU College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Professor Edward Barbier – one of the world’s best known environmental economists – has been named a 2026 laureate of the Blue Planet Prize, a prestigious international award recognizing significant contributions to solving global environmental challenges.

Often referred to as the ‘Nobel Prize of environmental sciences,’ this is the first time a CSU faculty member has received the prize in the award’s 35-year history.

In a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the College of Liberal Arts and the CSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the first class of 20 D.V.M. students graduated in May with a certificate in Spanish for Veterinary Professionals.

Language skills, cultural competency, and veterinary-specific communication training help veterinarians provide better care for animals and better support for their caregivers.
