Join us for the Scott Artist Series with internationally exhibited multidisciplinary artist Nick D**g on Monday, November 2!

Working across sculpture, metalsmithing, engineering, light, sound, and installation, D**g creates immersive, interactive artworks that invite audiences to experience art rather than simply observe it. His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. In 2012, he was also selected for the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s 40 Under 40: Craft Futures exhibition.

During his visit to CSU, D**g will connect with students and faculty before presenting a public lecture exploring the intersections of art, craft, technology, and human experience.

Join us tomorrow for an artist talk for our latest installation in the Directions Gallery, “Intersecting Paths,” with artists and CSU alumni Bethany Chambers, Chelsea Gilmore, Erik Wangsvick and Alex Rung! The talk will take place tomorrow, September 22nd, from 12-1pm. Though the artists all attended CSU, the artists did not all know each other until after graduating and becoming involved in the greater Fort Collins art community. Artists and students alike are invited to join us for this event. Come listen to insights into these artists practices and bring any questions you have to ask them! Following the artist talk on the 22nd is the Artist Reception on September 27th from 1:30-Directions. We can’t wait to see you there! The directions Gallery is located inside the Visual Arts Building. If you can’t make it to either of these events, the gallery is open and free to the public from 10am - 4pm Monday thru Friday.

The Department of Art and Art History is excited to welcome visiting artist Jerónimo Reyes-Retana, who joins Colorado State University to teach in the Electronic Art and Photography areas.

Reyes-Retana comes to CSU from the University of Colorado Boulder’s Critical Media Practices program, where he is a Ph.D. candidate. His work crosses boundaries between art, technology and research, using creative practice to examine the systems and infrastructures that shape communities and environments. His practice is driven by “the examination of the politics of noise and the poetics of infrastructure shaping Latin American contact zones.” Much of his work is centered around the marginalized settlement of El Campo Pesquero de Playa Bagdad in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and the transboundary sonic violence experienced in the community due to their proximity to SpaceX’s Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas.

His work is interested in exploring what he describes as “regimes of (in)visibility,” and the ways critical media practices can be used to investigate systems and conditions that might otherwise remain unseen.

His installations illuminate the ways in which technological development and industrialization encroach upon the natural world and affect the individuals that live within it. He received the CIFO-Ars Electronica Award 2025 for his film installation Voidn in Resonce, which documents SpaceX’s impact on Playa Bagdad through the perspectives of a group of local individuals. Further, he has co-created a school in the community that brings artistic education and enrichment to the local community, bolstering their ability to document and share their own experiences.

We are looking forward to integrating Jerónimo’s research-based and interdisciplinary perspectives to our Electronic Arts and Photography Departments!
