Undergraduate engineering students at Colorado State University are helping improve the safety of uranium mill tailings disposal sites across the West.

Working with the Department of Energy, they're testing new ways to strengthen protective covers and embankments against erosion, flooding, and extreme weather to better protect the community from potential exposure to radioactive materials.

Meet Yume Menghe Xu, one of our new first year faculty members. Dr. Yume is currently teaching ENGR 111, and in the spring will be teaching ENGR 114. She is passionate about creating a safe and welcoming engineering learning environment for students will all kinds of identities!
