As a middle school U.S. History teacher and current student in FGCU’s Master of Arts in School Counseling program, Melva Nelson is preparing to take the next step in her career as a school counselor.

At Little Eagles Learning Center, our Preschool/VPK students took a walk across the FGCU campus to the library for story time! 📚

🔍 Curiosity: The children have been learning about fall in the classroom, and our walk let them explore the changes in nature firsthand. Along the way, they observed trees, leaves, and plants, discovered acorns, and talked about what fall looks like here in Southwest Florida.

💪 Commitment: Connecting classroom learning to the world around them is how we build strong foundations for lifelong learners.

We love using our beautiful FGCU campus as an extension of our classroom! 💚💙

Turning assessment into action! Our literacy coaches spent September getting to know classrooms and gathering beginning-of-year data.

This October, they’re helping teachers use those insights to plan targeted literacy instruction. ✨

A special shoutout to Ms. Karisia and Ms. Mindy at First Baptist Preschool of LaBelle for using student trackers and class snapshots to guide whole-group lessons, small groups, and everyday learning! 🤍
