What a high achieving FRC weekend for Indiana Institute of Technology and its National Society of Black Engineers Chapter! Tech’s NSBE chapter takes great pride in being the largest engineering organization on campus and had the privilege of sending a record of 21 students to NSBE’s Fall Regional Conference this past weekend.
At the conference, 10 members entered the Business Elevator Pitch, Technical Research Exhibition (TRE), NSBE Debaters, and Academic Technical Bowl competitions. Of these, Indiana Tech NSBE claimed gold in both the Technical Research Exhibition and NSBE Debaters over much larger schools such as Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana University, and Purdue. In NSBE Debaters, our team has gone undefeated in every competition since the event’s conception. Additionally, the chapter competed in the Amazing Race Competition. In this competition, points are awarded to chapters for membership, retention, and other programs. Despite representing one of the smallest schools in NSBE’s mother region, the chapter is currently ranked 7th in this competition out of a pool of 50 collegiate chapters.
From the career fair, our members had 195+ interactions with employees and representatives from various companies and organizations. These interactions lead to 13 interviews at the conference, at least 32 additional scheduled interviews, and 18 position offers as of one week after the conference. Some of which are from Fortune 500 companies.
In review of the Fall Regional Conference, I cannot thank Indiana Tech’s School of Engineering, our corporate sponsors, my fellow executive board members, and the regional executive board enough for making this trip possible.
