This week’s speaker in Science Seminar was pre-medical student, Elijah Obringer.
He discussed his summer research experiences. His first project was conducted at the Cleveland Clinic and involved the role of the gut microbiome’s protective effect against PFAS (“forever chemicals” used in non-stick cookware). The second project was conducted at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and investigated the role of PCBs (used in electrical wiring) and their disruption to the gut-brain axis with subsequent consequences of increased risk for social isolation syndromes in adolescence.
