FACT of the Day - South Framingham Doughnut
***
Have you ever heard of the “South Framingham Doughnut”?
Back in 1864, a savvy entrepreneur named Simon Twitchell owned the Framingham Hotel and ran a catering business in South Framingham.
He came up with a quick snack - doughnuts - to sell to train passengers, opening a lunchroom at the train station for their convenience.
He also sold the doughnuts at his hotel and at Harmony Grove.
TONIGHT, April 28, the doughnuts were available at the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce's Taste of MetroWest at the 325th Celebration Committee booth thanks to 325th Celebration Committee member Susan Silva and the culinary students at Keefe Technical High School.
The culinary students recreated the recipe from the mid-1800s and their version of Framingham Doughnut was a huge hit at the Taste!
Those doughnuts finished in second place for the contest for best dessert at the Taste of MetroWest.
The Committee hops the culinary students will have a booth and sell their doughnuts at the first-ever Framingham Day on Saturday, October 4 at the Framingham Centre Common.
