Indiana Alpha - Sigma Alpha Epsilon

Indiana Alpha - Sigma Alpha Epsilon This page is for all Indiana Alpha alums. The chapter is alive and well!

Founded in 1892, Indiana Alpha of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, located on the campus of Franklin College, is the second longest continously operating SAE chapter in the country. Franklin College's Indiana Alpha Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter is one of many chapters in the realm with strong loyalty, friendship and brotherhood. Our chapter was founded locally on February 10, 1892 and continues to model the ideals of the chapter national.

I'm so proud of these guys!

Hey Everyone,

With our Movember coming to an end, I’m sending out an overview and some images on how it went this year! The total amount of donations that we raised was $1,255!! As of now our fraternity out of all SAE chapters is currently ranked 9th IN THE NATION with donations raised! We had 127 total donations with the average donation being $9.88. In the Student Center, the brothers of Indiana Alpha at tabling gave out bracelets and pitched our new version of a mustache competition this year where it was a mustache montage competition. This way the competition could appeal to more people than those who have actual mustaches. Anyone could enter the mustache montage competition using a real, fake, or drawn-on mustache. They created a 30-60 second mustache themed montage and email it to me by November 20th; the audience at the event voted for the most creative entry for individuals to win prizes, and the group with the most donations will win the Mustache Trophy for the year. Our Lambda Chi Alpha chapter here at our school won the best montage, while Zeta Tau Alpha won the Mustache Trophy with having the most donations raise. For as I know this is one if not the best year, we’ve ever had raising money and just overall participation with the competition and makes me really excited thinking of future events to come.

Thank You,

Must give a special shout out to the "Heroes of Homecoming" at Indiana Alpha.
Most of our current members are football players. On Homecoming Saturday, they're busy. That left 5 guys to man the Cline Woods tent....set-up, take-down, clean-up; grill the hot dogs; host visitors...including back at the house after the game, while waiting for football brothers and families to return.

The "Fantastic 5":
Maddix Flaugh: King of the Grill....look for him on Food Network
Hampton Crowe: New Member "King Mixer/Mingler". Track Guy
Ben Brown: Tall Senior w/ Texas Cowboy Hat; Red Oklahoma Jersey...Easy landmark for those looking for the SAE tent
Nick Miller: Logistics Consultant/Crisis Manager "We need more Hot Dogs/Buns/Paper Plates/Paper Towels"
Nathan Vujaklija: Fastest Brother in the House; software design guy.

Special Thanks to "Homecoming Heroine", Leanne Brown (Ben's Mom) for the post game pizza, and the unknown (by me) folks who brought sidedishes to the pre-game tailgate.

Phi Alpha,

Tom

What a great Homecoming for Indiana Alpha! I'm not much of a photographer, especially when I'm talking. It's a walking/chewing gum thing. I spent a lot of time talking, at the SAE tailgate in Cline Woods before the game and at the House after the game. I talked to Indiana Alpha alums....young and old(er)....parents and grandparents...even a couple SAE's from other schools (Ball State and Indiana State).
Beyond the nostalgia and laughter, were some heartfelt requests from multi-generational brothers: "How can we help?" Some of these requests came with exciting suggestions that will be pursued.
The motivation for this outpouring of support is a collective desire to see Indiana Alpha continue to flourish and develop young men.

Many Phi Alpha Thanks!

As Chapter Advisor of Indiana Alpha, I get to hang with, lecture to, laugh with, laugh at, and observe young men mature during their time living in the house. Sometimes the entire chapter can be impacted by a tragic event, and from that tragedy can come a desire to do something positive.

The Elliott Ogle Fund is such a project. The Fund will provide annual assistance to an active brother that will allow him to attend SAE Leadership School.

The link below connects to the Indiana Alpha Elliott Ogle Fund, and explains the "Why" the fund was established, as well as allows for giving online. If giving by check is preferable, please make check payable to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation ....with Elliott Ogle Fund on memo line. Mail to address below.
Many thanks for your consideration of making a contribution to this project....of any amount.

A Belated Indiana Alpha Homecoming Review:

Great Cline Woods Tailgate: Grey skies, a little drizzle, and a great mix of alums, parents, and brothers.

Post Game Victory Open House: Great Fun!

Huge Phi Alpha to Brother Gary Cooper '74, hands down winner of Active Chapter straw poll vote for "2024 Indiana Alpha Alum Homecoming King".

Clinched the crown with epic tale (told multiple times) of his "coast to coast" motorcycle ride through the house --beginning at west entrance of front hall, through the Red Room, and exiting the east kitchen door.....AND contributing a generous cash gift to the "Guys Party Fund"..... AND gifting a signed copy of his book to our library.

WE ARE NOT WORTHY, GARY! (Forever to Now be Known as "Motor Cycle Guy").

Don't be a stranger!

A Great Monday! Tonight is first Active Chapter for the 12 newest initiates of Indiana Alpha. I'll post the picture when I figure out how.

If I can't figure it out in a timely manner, come to Homecoming this weekend and meet them in person.

You can join us Saturday, beginning at 11 am for our Cline Woods Tailgate before the game, AND/OR come to the house after the game.

You can mingle with fellow alums; regale current brothers with tales of the "Good Old Days"; take a look at the National Chapter Achievement Award we brought home from National Ritual Academy this August -- one of only 15 SAE chapters in the country so honored.

Welcome Back to Your SAE Home!

Phi Alpha!

Great News from Indiana Alpha as we hit the ground running this academic year!

The Chapter was one of only fifteen SAE chapters in the country to be awarded The National Achievement Award.......

"In Recognition of the Chapter's exemplary performance in reflecting the high ideals, values, and goals of the Fraternity"

The award was presented at the closing ceremony of the Ritual Academy, attended by Brothers Jake Joiner and Matt Sullens.

A special HUGE Phi Alpha to Brother Owen Ogle '24 for making this award possible. Owen concluded a very successful term as EA early last Spring. He then set the STANDARD for senior member engagement by taking on the arduous application process for this award.

While other brothers helped Owen finish the application, he "carried the ball the length of the field to the goal line".....including a huge individual effort during finals week.

This year's returning members are a good group: A large group of seniors that include some great leaders. Additionally, high quality young men/leaders are found in the Junior and Sophomore classes.

Next Step: Rush!

I'm very proud of these men.

Phi Alpha!!!

If you have interest in serving Indiana Alpha as a member of the Indiana Alpha House Corporation, we encourage you to reach out with questions or interest. We currently have four members and are looking to double that number or more. Your commitment can be extensive or limited, but if you have availability, interest, or skill in what we do with the chapter and chapter house, consider giving back in this manner.

We can offer greater detail and answer more pointed questions if you have any. Our main purpose is to act as stewards for the property and ensure it is well maintained. We act on behalf of all alumni and work with the active chapter to budget needs and wants for the house and chapter expenses in a variety of categories.

Proximity to the chapter house is not a necessity to serving. We can use alumni of a variety of skills and backgrounds for the good of the chapter. Feel free to reach out to Chris Nobbe (812-584-8129). Phi alpha.

Last week, Indiana Alpha coordinated w/ Red Wing Avon to win a food drive. The food was delivered to an Avon Middle school today, who was profoundly grateful as students needing food assistance has doubled over the last few years. We appreciate all who assisted in this effort, truly a team effort to support a local school feeding children during the school day. Phi Alpha.
