Highlights from GSA - Thanks to Miles, Megan, Tammy, Wondo, and Dipa for a job well done! We had a great time a bumped into many UMW Alumni who are now accomplished in their academic careers. I also had an opportunity to attend talks and presentations by my past advisors/mentors with my students - this was indeed quite a rewarding experience!

Cool!

Global warming has raised global sea level about 8" since 1880, and the rate of rise is accelerating. Rising seas dramatically increase the odds of damaging floods from storm surges.

Join us at GSA Sunday and Monday in Baltimore MD for several presentations on the stratigraphy and paleontology of the Tidal Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers! Congrats to UMW students Miles Neilson, Megan Clevenger, Tammy Prescott, and Christopher Moulton. We also have a collaborative poster being presented by Nick Wondolowski from Salem State University. This should be a productive meeting!

Are there Sea Horses in the Bay? This question is common in EESC 210 Oceanography. Way cool!

Our oyster grower, Kevin Sullivan, found his 3rd lined sea horse hanging out in his cages on the Miles River! This is the only species of sea horse found in the Chesapeake Bay. Oysters are not only great for filtering the water, but provide habitat for creatures like the sea horse!
