Sac. City took the rain-plagued series two games to one. Ohlone (37-12), seeded fifth, evened the series 1-1 with a 12-1 rout of Sac. City on Saturday, but Sunday’s scheduled Game 3 was pushed to Monday due to the wet weather.
Zach Patterson capped off a brilliant season on Monday with his 14th home run to finish No. 2 in the state. Justin Clark drove in Ohlone's other run with a sacrifice fly.
With an impressive program under head coach Mike Curran, the Renegades have won three straight Coast Pacific titles.
Ohlone took series wins over Butte and Fresno City to advance to the Sectional Final.
In Game 1 of the NorCal Final, Sacramento City scored in extra innings to take a dramatic 7-6 win. For Ohlone, Clark was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, including a two-run triple.

Brett Tressen and Brad Norton had big games, with Tressen going 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Norton going 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. Michael Gallagher tacked on two hits and two runs scored. The Renegades’ defense also sparkled with no errors.
Ohlone was explosive in the playoffs, amassing 18 runs twice in wins over Fresno City in the Super Regionals and 12 runs in a triumph over Butte.
Last year the Renegades also advanced to the Sectional Final before falling to top seed San Joaquin Delta two games to one. In 2017, Ohlone eliminated Sac. City in the Sectional Final to advance to the State Championship.
BRAINS TOO: Known for academic achievement, Ohlone was recognized with eight CCCBCA Academic All-Americans. That's 32 in the past 4 years — most in all of California. OHLONE BASEBALL TEAM GAINS TOP CONFERENCE HONORS
The Ohlone College baseball team hit the equivalent of another home run in the All-Coast Conference selections .
Freshman sensation Zach Patterson was selected as Pacific Player of the Year, marking the third straight year an Ohlone player has received the top honor. Patterson, out of Granada High, had impressive statistics with a .416 batting average, 47 runs batted in and 12 home runs. He also had four saves as a pitcher. Patterson follows AJ Curtis (2018) and Ryan Ruley (2017) as players of the year.
Ohlone freshman right-hander Ryan Robinson (7-1, 1.93 ERA, 57 K) was tabbed as conference Pitcher of the Year, a year after the Renegades’ Ethan Skuija received the honor.
Four players made first-team all-conference: Tyler Stultz, P; Michael Gallagher, 1B; Dalton Vanhille, INF; and Justin Clark, OF. Ohlone’s second-team picks were Peter Van Loon, P; Andrew Amato, P; Zac Heinz, RP; Cody Nisbet, C; Luke O’Brien, INF; Bradley Norton, INF; Brett Tressen, OF; and Norman Leon, DH.
Ohlone (32-8) will open the CCCAA NorCal playoffs with a best-of-three series against Butte (30-9) at 3 p.m. Friday in Fremont, the site of the whole series.

OHLONE SOFTBALL GALLANT IN DEFEAT
Even though the Ohlone College softball team fell just short of making the playoffs, the Renegades battled to the absolute final out.
That was evident in Ohlone’s hard-fought 3-2 defeat to State No. 1 College of San Mateo on April 23 in the teams’ Coast-North season finales.
Ohlone (21-17, 6-7) received gallant pitching from sophomore Ana Beard, who went the distance and limited an explosive lineup to three runs.
Alynna Ramirez socked a two-run double in the fourth to give Ohlone a 2-1 lead. But CSM, the No. 1 seed in the NorCal playoffs this week, retook the lead for good with a two-run triple in the seventh.

IT'S PLAYOFF TIME FOR OHLONE BASEBALL!!
The impressive Ohlone College baseball team will open a best-of-three game series against visiting Butte at 3 p.m. on Friday to begin the CCCAA Northern California Regional Playoffs.
Game 2 will be at noon on Saturday, with a third game to follow at 3 p.m., if necessary.
The fifth-seeded Renegades (32-8), ranked No. 22 in the Perfect Game Juco College Top 25, put the final touches on a third consecutive Coast Pacific title last week, taking two of three against Monterey Peninsula to complete a 15-3 Pacific mark.
After sailing to the conference title, in fact clinching with three games remaining for the third straight year, Ohlone will be thrust into a matchup pitting two 30-win teams -- the only one of its kind in the North bracket. Butte (30-9) is riding a four-game winning streak.
Despite not having much to play for last week, Ohlone beat Monterey 8-0 on April 26 in the regular season home finale for an outstanding sophomore cast.
In a 9-0 win over Monterey on April 24, Tyler Stultz allowed just three hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts.
Renegades coach Mike Curran is pleased with how the team managed to stay sharp last week.
"We were really, really trying to keep the guys motivated and we found a way to win two of three from Monterey Peninsula, a good team which is in the playoffs," Curran said proudly.
Curran described his hitters as "locked in" and says pitchers are pounding the strike zone and keeping the ball down.
Butte, the runner-up in the Golden Valley Conference and seeded 12/11 in the playoffs, features top pitcher Ben Elder (11-3, 2.74 ERA), who is tied for first in the state in wins and has 93 strikeouts. He is backed up by Austin McFarlane (8-2, 2.90 ERA, 78 K).
Ohlone’s Andrew Amato (8-2, 3.13) and Stultz (8-1, 2.45) are tied for second in the conference in wins with eight apiece, a win ahead of Ryan Robinson and Peter Van Loon. Robinson leads the conference in earned run average at 1.93 and Van Loon is third at 2.20.
Ohlone slugger Zach Patterson is tied for first in the state in home runs with 12 and is tied for fourth in batting average at .416. Impressively, Patterson, who also has 47 RBIs, won the triple crown in the conference. He also finished tied for second in saves with four.
Of course, the Renegades have lots of firepower. Four players finished in the top five in RBIs in the conference, also including Dalton Vanhille (46), Michael Gallagher (40) and Justin Clark (36). Brett Tressen was fourth in home runs with five.
In Ohlone’s 9-0 win over Monterey, Patterson and Gallagher each had two hits and an RBI and Vanhille and Norman Leon both scored twice and had hits.
In the 8-0 win, Patterson was 2 for 4 with a home run, double, and three runs scored. Tressen and Gallagher had doubles. Luke O’Brien walked twice and had two RBIs.
LOOKING UP: Former Ohlone pitcher Stirling Strong ('17, '18) is pitching well at Point Loma University. As of April 24, Strong was tied for the most pitching starts for the Sea Lions (11) and was 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA in 62 innings.
