Congratulations to UROC mentee and mentor of the year, Julia Butz (Undergraduate, Kinesiology), and Alison Marzocchi (Professor, Mathematics)!

Student Creative Activities and Research (SCAR) Day was a highlight during Research Week 2026 at CSUF. Graduate and undergraduate students showcased their research through oral and poster presentations, highlighting innovative and impactful work across campus.
Hosted by the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center (UROC), SCAR Day emphasized the value of student research, collaboration, and the development of essential academic and professional skills.
We are proud to celebrate the dedication, creativity, and excellence of our students. We look forward to next year’s SCAR Day!

Seven new awards or fully negotiated contracts for $3,832,069 have been given for research projects conducted at CSUF. Congratulations to all of our Principal Investigators on their hard work!

• Victoria Ajemian (Academic Affairs) received a $49,500 award from the Trustee of the California State University for the project, “Financial Wellness Clinic.”
• Michaela Bettez (Pollak Librarian) received a $5,000 award from CSU Dominguez Hills Foundation and their prime sponsor, Michelson 20MM Foundation for the project, “CSU Open Education Advocacy Fellowship: Kickstarting a Regional Student Partnership.”
• Michael Daniel (Business and Economics) received a $3,034,672 award from US Small Business Administration for the project, “Orange County Inland Empire Small Business Development Center CY 2026.”
• Bridget Dunken (Mathematics) received a $500,000 award from Google, LLC for the project, “PRISM Hub.”
• Kenneth Faller (Engineering and Computer Science) received a $198,397 award from The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University and their prime sponsor: National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL)/Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane for the project, “Chip Forward: Developing Tomorrow’s Semiconductor Workforce.”
• Laura Gil-Trejo (Humanities and Social Sciences) received a $40,000 award from Growing Inland Achievement (GIA) for the project, “2026 CSUF Alumni Survey.”
• David Pagni (Natural Sciences and Mathematics) received a $4,500 award from Kern County Superintendent of Schools for the project, “Math Professional Learning Partnership (“MPLP”) at CSU Fullerton.”

At our lightning talks from CSUF’s centers and institutes at Research Week, we were delighted to learn about the Center for Success Aging from Koren Fisher. Their goals are to conduct interdisciplinary research on issues across the lifespan, provide professional training for students to work safely and effectively in a variety of physical activity settings, and implement community-accessible physical activity programs. They also aim to develop community partnerships to provide innovative physical activity programming and advocate for public policy supporting the development of physical literacy and healthy behaviors across the lifespan. Their mission is to alleviate education and health disparities, revitalize neighborhoods, and reduce the cycle of poverty for low-income children and families. At our lightning talks from CSUF’s centers and institutes at Research Week, we had the opportunity to learn about The Nicholas and Lee Begovich Center for Gravitational-Wave Physics and Astronomy (GWPAC) from Joshua Smith. Established in 2012, GWPAC conducts research, education, and outreach in gravitational-wave astronomy, physics, and astrophysics.
