WCares WCares offers useful tips and tools for students to become advocates for themselves in academics and personal wellness--with a touch of humor!

WCares is a student-based program designed as the initial point of contact for students struggling academically or socially on campus. Our Student Care Specialist is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience on campus in an effort to increase retention, success, and completion of their 4-year degree. The student and specialist work together to identify problem areas a

nd create a plan to overcome those obstacles. Some of these areas include: time management, study skills, sleep wellness, decision-making, adjustment to college, social engagement and/or career planning.

Wellness Wednesday: Today begins a 10-part series on managing inevitable stress. Point #1: Identify and Address the Problem:
1) When I have too many problems, I will work on just one at a time. For example, I am going to pick one huge problem and break it into smaller pieces. 2) I will seek advice and learn from their experience how to better handle problems. 3) I will take big assignments and learn to make lists or timelines. 4) I will work in teams so that I will learn that when people work well together they can do much more than if they each work alone

Wellness Wednesday: Yup. It's cold out there. Here are some safety tips from American Red Cross:
1. Be aware of the wind chill. Avoid staying in the cold too long.
2. Wear layers of clothing to stay warm, along with a hat, mittens and waterproof, insulated boots to keep feet warm and dry. Avoid unnecessary exposure of any part of the body to the cold.
3. Be careful when tackling strenuous tasks in cold temperatures. Take frequent breaks from the cold.
4. Drink plenty of warm fluids or warm water, but avoid caffeine and alcohol.
5. Get out of the cold immediately if the signs of hypothermia and frostbite appear.
