On Friday, Equity and Inclusion, Student Activities, One Rock, and ADAMAH collaborated to recognize National Day of Silence. Together, many took a vow against bullying, harassment, and inconsistent treatment often experienced in the LGBTQQIP2SAA Community.

The GLSEN Day of Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ students abs allows all around the country - and the world - take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination.

Started in the mid 90’s by two college students, the Day of Silence has expanded to reach thousands of students each year in hopes of bringing attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.

Here at Limestone, we are asking individuals to wear assorted color t-shirts representing the colors of the rainbow, 2) participate in our Social Media Campaign, 3) join in the walk to the Bell Tower, and 4) gather for a photo in front of the white Limestone Sign. While we recognize it would be difficult to conduct class in a silent format, we are asking professor to honor this day with a moment of silence at the beginning of each class.

Be encouraged First-Geners, those of us who have traveled the path you are on know and understand firsthand how challenging it can be times. We know the heartache, emptiness, feelings of not fitting in or not being worthy, but we also know the feelings of pride, triumph, and victory that comes when you reach those goals you’ve set for yourself. Whatever and whomever is trying to derail you, speak to that thing and remind them that you will not be defeated. You will learn and you will win. You are greater than your past and stronger than your problems. You will become what you believe, so press on my Friend. I believe in you. Do you believe in you?
