Assistant Professor Oana Dumitru and M.S. student Emalee Ott, alongside collaborators from multiple institutions, are currently conducting fieldwork in the Cook Islands as part of an NSF-funded project investigating past sea-level change during the Last Interglacial period.
By collecting and studying fossil corals preserved on these remote islands, the team aims to reconstruct past sea levels and improve our understanding of how ice sheets responded to a warmer climate. Their research will provide valuable insights into future sea-level rise and the long-term impacts of climate change.
