Congratulations to fourth-year graduate student Shalom Iboh, on her new research 🏆 award titled “Multi-Objective Optimization of Tailor-made Biofuels from Renewable Feedstocks”.
She received the Global Biofuels Champion Fellowship from the Global Biofuels Alliance and works in the Restrepo-Florez Group (Sustainable Process Design Laboratory).
Shalom’s research focuses on identifying the optimal routes to transform dry plant masses, or biomasses, such as 🌽 corn stover, into fuels as a cost-effective alternative to fossil fuels.
Fuel traits such as how it burns, how it mixes with jet fuel and diesel and how it fits into current transportation systems need to be considered to make biofuel use realistic.
Shalom is looking at a combination of factors including economic analysis, life cycle assessment, product design and deep learning models to identify cost-effective and sustainable tailor-made biofuels.
The goal is to optimize fuel consumption, production pathways and environmental impacts to enable the discovery of biofuels that perform far better than conventional fossil fuels.
