Yesterday, University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences staff visited for emergency response training focused on protecting workers in hazardous environments. Participants heard from Solid Waste Program Manager and Safety & Health Instructor Cindy Mercado on workplace safety practices, Interim Director Lauren McCain on Florida Water/ Wastewater Agency Response Network (FlaWARN), and Amanda Martin from the American Red Cross on emergency preparedness and response efforts. Trainings like this help strengthen preparedness and promote safer response efforts in our communities.

🌀 After a hurricane, the danger doesn't stop when the storm does. At the Florida Chamber Leadership Cabinet Conference on Safety, Health and Sustainability, TREEO's Cindy Mercado shared what recovery workers are really up against — electrocution, carbon monoxide poisoning, falls, and heat illness, often with no training for the conditions they're walking into.

The difference between a safe recovery and a tragic one? Preparation that happens before a storm is ever named.

Read the full blog to see what that preparation actually looks like — and what your organization should do now. https://go.ufl.edu/wb0sa09

Members of our team recently attended the American Backflow Prevention Association National Conference and had the opportunity to connect with Les O’Brien, creator of the UF TREEO Backflow Prevention Program and author of the UF TREEO Backflow Prevention Theory & Practice Reference Book.

We enjoyed attending a great event and reconnecting with someone who has played such an important role in backflow prevention education.
