So proud of Tony and all the amazing work from everyone at the Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida! Congratulations!

Happy Fun Friday!

We are happy to announce that out of 15 CIL’s in the state of Florida, the CILNCF served more consumers with disabilities than any other CIL during the past year! The hard work, skills, and cooperation among the CILNCF staff is the driver for our success in delivering high quality services. Their ability to adapt and innovate our services during these challenging times is truly remarkable and is a testament to the care they have for the people we serve. The CILNCF is especially grateful for our community partners, donors, and supporters who help us in ensuring all people with disabilities in our community can live independently. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

RESEARCH PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITY: Seeking deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the Gainesville-area who have used UFHealth’s emergency rooms in the past 3 years. Summary and video description in the first comment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXSoVnGZFZM

Summary: Hello everyone, my name is Tyler James. I am hearing PhD student at the University of Florida in the Department of Health Education and Behavior. I am conducting a study on reasons why Deaf and hard-of-hearing people use emergency rooms. What will you be asked to do? This study is a 1-hour telephone or Zoom interview. I will ask you questions about your experience going to the emergency room. Why are we doing this study? Information from this study will be shared with researchers and hospital administrators with the goal of improving healthcare for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Who can join the study? You must be 18 years or older; identify as Deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have hearing loss; and must have used UFHealth’s ER in Gainesville in the past 3 years – that would be the main ER on Archer Road, the emergency center at Kanapaha, or the emergency center at SpringHill. Deaf and hard-of-hearing people may be eligible to join if they use English or use American Sign Language to communicate. Is there compensation? Eligible participants will be offered a $40 gift card (either VISA or Amazon) after the interview. If you know a person who may be eligible, please share this video with them. Please contact me for more information. My e-mail is [email protected], telephone 352-294-2940, or our lab videophone 352-240-3383. Thank you for your help!
