Join the University of Florida College of Medicine as we celebrate National Postdoct Appreciation Week from Sept. 19-23.

UF is home to more than 600 postdoctoral scholars, including Emily Smail, Ph.D., a researcher in the College of Medicine department of health outcomes & biomedical informatics. Smail studies mental health and mobility in older adults using tools like smartwatch technology to track risk factors for falls.

"The postdoc experience is wildly different based on career goals, but universally, I think it’s most important that mentors be available to their postdoc," she said. "Weekly meetings are a great way to provide structure and allow the postdoc to progress through their career goals by allowing them space to express their goals and opinions without judgment."

Read more about Smail and her UF postdoc peers at https://news.ufl.edu/2022/09/postdoc-appreciation-week/

Congratulations to one of our Pepper Scholars, Dr. Samir Shah, was awarded a K23 funded by NHLBI. Dr. Shah’s research focuses on using Medicare claims data for understanding the types of treatments patients with kidney failure get for advanced peripheral arterial disease and their outcomes. Dr. Shah ultimately hopes to use the techniques he learned from his Pepper scholars project to better understand patient-centered outcomes in the renal failure/PAD population.
