Dr. Larisa Cavallari joined WJXT4 The Local Station / News4JAX this morning to discuss a new clinical trial focused on chronic acid reflux. Partnering with Dr. Ruchir Puri of UF Health Jacksonville, the research team will examine whether genotype-guided dosing of proton pump inhibitors, or PPIs, can improve treatment outcomes for patients with erosive esophagitis.

As another year of the Gator Pharmacy Exploration Camp comes to a close, we bid farewell to the rising high school stars from around the state who spent the week at the University of Florida learning about pharmacy!

This week, we welcomed 30 high school students from across the state to our Gainesville campus for the annual University of Florida Gator Pharmacy Exploration Camp. GPEC aims to inspire students to choose careers in pharmacy, and over the course of the program, campers hear presentations from pharmacy professionals, test their own skills in lab exercises, dive into faculty-guided case studies, tour the college’s facilities and participate in team-building activities. The camp ends tonight with a banquet at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Congrats on a great week, campers!

The UF College of Pharmacy’s Gator Pharmacy Exploration Camp is celebrating its fifth year by welcoming 29 rising high school seniors for an immersive week of pharmacy and health care experiences. The campers started their week with CPR training, simulation center activities and team-building exercises.

A delegation from the UF College of Pharmacy recently visited Taiwan to advance new partnerships with National Taiwan University and the National Defense Medical University College of Pharmacy. In the past year, these institutions have formalized their relationships with UF through a Memorandum of Understanding and an Agreement of Academic Collaboration that will promote joint research initiatives, scholarly publications, conferences and academic programming. During the visit, UF faculty delivered lectures to pharmacy students, toured community pharmacies and research facilities and gained insight into Taiwan’s culture and pharmacy practice.

Citing research led by faculty in the UF College of Pharmacy, the National Institutes of Health has announced its Investigational New Drug application for mitragynine, the primary psychoactive compound found in kratom, has taken effect with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The milestone clears the way for an NIH-led phase I clinical trial in humans to evaluate mitragynine as a potential treatment of opioid use disorder.

UF College of Pharmacy researchers developed the purified formulation that will be used in the trial and conducted the preclinical studies that supported the Investigational New Drug application.
