Sharon DiFino, a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, took up woodworking while recovering from long COVID. After amassing over 200 comfort objects, wood carvings akin to worry stones, Sharon knew exactly who could benefit from them. Working with students in UF’s National Student Speech Language Hearing Association chapter, they packaged them and wrote personal letters for UF Health Shands Hospital patients receiving cancer care. https://phhp.ufl.edu/2026/05/15/small-gestures-with-big-meaning/
