The Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development and Education (STRIDE) Center, is a Regional University Transportation Center funded by the U.S. The University of Florida leads the consortium, which includes Auburn University, Florida International University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Mississippi State University, North Carolina State University, University of Alabama at
Birmingham, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel. The University of Florida and its consortium partners bring a wealth of expertise related to several of the USDOTβs research priorities and have either led or participated in UTCs during the past several years. Leveraging the abilities, experience, and expertise gained through these earlier UTCs, the STRIDE regional consortium focuses on three major areas: safety, livable communities, and economic competitiveness. Each of these three areas reflects a critical need in Region 4, the southeast, as well as the nation as a whole. The center will receive approximately $3.5 million from federal Fiscal Year 2011 funds, and it is expected to obtain matching funds from non-federal sources in an amount at least equal to the U.S.
