The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a national organization that was founded to facilitate the improvement and advancement of the Civil Engineering profession. Within the national level are student chapters that prepare Civil Engineering students for their careers. To accomplish this, competitions were founded in order to teach students the skills they need to be successful. One of t
hese competitions is the National Concrete Canoe Competition. In this competition, students from across the nation design, construct, and race concrete canoes. The concrete canoe competition gives students the opportunity to gain hands on experience in concrete mix design, construction, and project management. The University of Florida competes every year in the Southeastern Regional Competition against some of the toughest teams in the nation. Last March, the team placed 1st overall in the Southeast. This win qualified us for nationals for the 12th time in team history and the fifth year in a row. We were very proud to place 2nd overall in the Nation this past summer in Golden, CO. We are excited to announce that this year's regional competition will be in Gainesville, FL and hosted by the University of Florida! In the past, private donations have allowed our team to acquire building materials and transport the canoe to competitions. This year, our fundraising goal is $17,000.
