Our former cook, Suzette Riggins, was recently diagnosed and hospitalized with Covid. She is currently in ICU in Gainesville.

For the past 15+ years, Suzette has worked at the Reichert House Youth Academy in Gainesville, an after school program run by GPD for at risk youth. Suzette is beloved by the boys and respected by everyone at GPD. At the age of 66, she is still working hard, serving hundreds of young men and their families every year.

We are asking for your help in providing Suzette some much needed financial support during this difficult time. At this point, we are uncertain when she will be able to return to work.

If you can, please extend the helping hand to a woman who took care of us while at Theta Chi. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Robert Schulte is a fourth-year Industrial and Systems Engineering student. He is currently a freelance consultant specializing in Robotic Process Automation and is working as an intern for KPMG's CIO Advisory practice. Robert served as the Chair of Gator Innovators and has been involved with Student Senate, Young Leaders Conference, and Theta Chi Fraternity. Additionally, Robert is an avid beekeeper and the founder of a business where he sells honey products to raise money for bee research.

via The Rattle, November 1918. Here's a snippet from an update sent in by Tau Chapter at the University of Florida:

"There have been very few dances this year on account of the epidemic of influenza and now the Government has decreed that the social part of fraternity life at Florida must be abandoned. We anticipate, however, giving a Thanksgiving dinner dance and are expecting several friends from the State Women's College and Stetson University...At present we have an exceptionally strong chapter and expect to pledge several more men immediately, if we are allowed to do so. Dr. Murphree, President of the University, received some instructions regarding fraternity actions and I think we will be allowed to get in some men this week, but then all initiations must cease; all dances and social gatherings must stop, and we will only be allowed to have business meetings, besides being deprived of our house."

Looking ahead at the next issue of The Rattle, it is unknown if the Thanksgiving Dance was held. However, Tau does report, "After a joyful and pleasant vacation, the brothers returned and the Theta Chi home began once more to take on her old appearance. But there also returned Lt. "Rowdy" Bill Wilkinson, Ens. Ogilvie, Lt. Camp, Lt. Fred Mellor, Seaman Miles, and Lt. Paul Swink, naval aviator. These are all the old brothers in Theta Chi and have helped to make Theta Chi the best at Florida. Tau gave these brothers a hearty welcome and the "Rats" were happy."

Tau Chapter made it through the Spanish Flu and WWI (- at the same time!). We'll make it through this. We Believe in Theta Chi. We are Theta Chi. We are .

Mitch Capps is a beloved friend and brother. He recently suffered a serious accident and is currently staying at Shands while he undergoes multiple surgeries and a long road of recovery.

Everyone acquainted with Mitch knows that he is a loving and caring individual. His father and older brother are both Tau chapter alumni and are exemplary representatives for the fraternity. Any love and support to the family would be greatly appreciated in their time of need.
