The Flatwoods 5K begins just after sunrise on the scenic lime rock road loop within the University of Florida's School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences' Austin Cary Forest. The race is chip timed and the course is well marked, accurately measured, with mile markers and a water station halfway. The course is flat, but can be challenging due to uneven footing. The race is best known for

its unique pine cone trophies, made from slash, loblolly and long leaf pines found in the forest. Awards go three deep in all age groups. Course records are:
Men – 16:21 – Bobby Hensley – 2015
Women – 18:06 – Daniela Urzua – 2017
