What We Do
R.E.A.D.I Mentoring creates mentoring relationships that provide low-income high school students with the necessary tools to graduate high school, succeed in college, and reach their goals. Students work with their mentors one-on-one to develop a strong personal relationship that will help encourage a college education through aid in navigating the college application process, and build
critical skills that lead to college success. R.E.A.D.I Mentoring provides the support and guidance for prospective first-generation college students so that they may be guided through a path necessary for college success. Mentoring is a high school based mentoring program matching high school students in Gainesville, FL with students from the University of Florida. The time ranges because mentors commit to support their mentees until the mentee graduates high school. R.E.A.D.I Mentoring provides priority to senior mentees as they will venture into college within a few months. Mentor-mentee pairs are required to meet in person once a week during the mentee's lunch time. In addition, mentors and mentees will communicate through emails, phone calls, and additional meetings as they see necessary. Both mentors and mentees are required to sign a contract committing to dedication, respect, and responsibility to the relationship. In addition to receiving help from mentors, mentees will be provided with different opportunities like college tours and workshops to help nurture their college ambitions.
