✨Project launch #2! ✨ We had the lab set up for “Midwestern Migrant Farmworkers,” an Omeka mapping project built by the students of Dr. Robin Ragan’s Spanish for Healthcare course. We had a great audience browsing students’ projects and asking questions about their work! Shout out to lab assistant Mimi Schweitzer for providing amazing support for this project!

"Midwestern Migrant Farmworkers" is a spatial study of migrant labor on farms across the Midwest. In this class project, students examined sources related to inspections, violations, citations, and other incidents on farms to uncover the lived experiences of migrant laborers in these spaces. Students then curated this data and documentary evidence into a public-facing website with an interactive map, supplemental information, attached media, and additional resources.

📢🌟The Abolition Lab is pleased to announce the launch of a new library guide filled with readings and resources from our “Towards an Abolitionist Model of Media Literacy” team!

Find the libguide here: https://knox.libguides.com/abolitionistMediaLit

From Dr. Jonah Rubin on Twitter: “The first version of our "Abolitionist Media Literacy" Library Guide is now live, a project of the
Abolition Lab "Towards an Abolitionist Media Lit Project," co-led by Roya Biggie and me, with Becca Yowler, Mary Lyons, and Emily Anderson.

This is very much a beta launch, the beginnings of a project that tries to bring an abolitionist lens to media literacy, push beyond narrow fact checking and toward building capacity to recognize and respond to racism in news reporting and broader media. Still much to do.

This beta version gathers together existing resources on media lit & abolitionism. We found many great resources out there. There are also a lot that (we think) don't yet exist. We're hoping to address that as this LibGuide grows & evolves moving forward. It is far from complete.

If you know of anything that is not included in the LIbGuide but should be, please get in touch. We have lots of work to do to realize this vision. And stay tuned for future posts on how we seek to bring together abolitionism and media literacy, as well as future directions.”
