Did you know in the 1960s at Knox College, a group of determined women students petitioned President Sharvey Umbeck for the right to self-govern and live without curfews? Their efforts sparked the creation of the Anderson House—an experimental dorm where women could live on their own terms, with their own keys and no restrictions. This May, we welcomed these trailblazing alumnae back to campus at the Abolition Lab. They shared powerful stories of community and progress, and dedicated a meaningful art piece to the Anderson House. Here’s to the women who paved the way for future generations at Knox!
