🐦🌿 FROM STOCKTON TO THE SALT MARSH: CONNECTING PEOPLE WITH NATURE! 🌿🐦
When Stockton University talks about being part of the community, John Rokita and Lester Block don’t just talk about it—they grab their binoculars and head outdoors!
Recently, these two Stockton alumni and longtime Stockton employees were recognized for their volunteer service at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. John and Lester both received “Connecting People With Nature” certificates, while Lester was also recognized with a 500-hour volunteer service pin! 🏅👏
For years, they’ve represented Stockton in the community through bird walks, field trips, Wildlife Drive Jitney tours, environmental outreach, senior and youth programs, Black Birder events, and the annual Stargazing program. They’re also advisors to Stockton’s Pine Barrens Birding Club, helping the next generation discover the wonders of birds, wildlife, and the Pine Barrens.
And that’s really what this is all about.
Conservation isn’t just about protecting habitat—it’s about helping people care about it. John and Lester have introduced countless people to the birds, marshes, wildlife, and wild places right in their own backyard.
Of course, nature comes with a few hazards. 🦟
The mosquitoes and greenheads remain committed to connecting people with nature—mostly through direct blood donation. 😂
Congratulations, John and Lester! 🎓🐦 Your years of service are a wonderful example of Stockton University’s commitment to education, community engagement, and connecting people with the natural world.
