UTMB Office of Student Life Leadership. Professionalism. Activities. There are over 100 active student organizations here at UTMB. Most are professional- and discipline-specific.

Each year the Office of Student Life leads and facilitates cultural, recreational, and social celebrations, ceremonies, and events for the University community. We collaborate with students and faculty in the implementation of programs and activities that support students’ personal and professional development, while expanding their learning experiences. Others are cultural, religious, social, or

special interest. Each year these organizations continue UTMB’s tradition of service, civic engagement, and cultural opportunities by organizing hundreds of projects for the campus and the Galveston community. This involvement helps develop essential life skills, critical thinking, leadership, lifelong learning, and oral and written communication skills. Through additional participation in University related activities, you will discover multicultural and global perspectives, civic and individual responsibility, respect for individuals, a sense of competence, and the capacity to work well with others. In addition to working with organizations, the Office of Student Life also coordinates or supports:

This week’s Student News & Notes is packed with upcoming events, student organization programs, and ways to connect with the UTMB community!

Celebrate National Hamburger Day with Student Life and UTMB Police on Thursday, May 28, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM outside the Health Education Center East Entrance. Later that evening, Professionals Advocating for Cultural Excellence (PACE) will host a screening and discussion of Power to Heal from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in HEC 3.200.

Looking ahead to June, students can join SNMA and SGA for a Juneteenth BBQ on Thursday, June 4, featuring free food, line dances, games, local historians, and the NIA Cultural Center. Student organizations and the Office of Student Life are also hosting a FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Watch Party on Thursday, June 11, with free food, prizes, and Mexico vs. South Africa on the big screens.

This issue also includes June save-the-date events, a Father’s Day Card Pick Up Event, and an Interview & Resume Workshop for nursing students hosted by the Student Nurses Association.

Dear Students,

You’re invited to take a break, connect, and prioritize your well-being at our upcoming Student Mental Health & Wellness Event as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

This week’s Student News & Notes has plenty of ways to get involved and stay connected at UTMB!

Intramural Summer Softball registration closes tomorrow, May 22, at 5 PM, so don’t miss your chance to sign up. Student Life and UTMB Police are also celebrating National Hamburger Day on Thursday, May 28, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM outside the Health Education Center East Entrance.

Later that evening, Professionals Advocating for Cultural Excellence (PACE) will host a screening and discussion of Power to Heal from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in HEC 3.200. Looking ahead, SNMA and SGA will celebrate Juneteenth on Thursday, June 4, with a BBQ, line dancing, games, local historians, and the NIA Cultural Center.

This issue also includes a Nurses Week recap, a reminder from Moody Medical Library to double-check AI-generated citations, and a list of local volunteer opportunities for students looking to get involved in the Galveston community.

- The elevator will be fully out of service for the duration of construction.
- Access to the following offices will require use of the front outdoor stairwell:
Student Life and ADA Services (2nd floor)
Student Health and Counseling (3rd floor)
- The JSC is badge access only. Please note the badge reader is located on the left side of the front door.
- An alternate stairwell is available at the back of the building, accessible through the 1st‑floor break space; this stairwell leads to the 2nd floor only.
