A CenterPoint Energy power outage that occurred near the UTMB Galveston Campus yesterday evening and affected all of the campus overnight has been resolved. All power has been restored to the campus.

Patients whose Galveston Campus appointments have been affected by the power outage have been contacted. Clinics will operate on their normal schedules today.

Employees are expected to report for their scheduled shifts today unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.

For students: Many lecture-based or didactic courses are being transitioned to online today but check with your individual school for updates. Clinic or in-person activity will continue as planned.

GALVESTON CAMPUS: An external power outage is currently affecting operations on the UTMB Galveston Campus.

CenterPoint Energy crews are actively working to restore power, with service anticipated to be restored overnight. Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Patients whose Galveston Campus appointments may be affected by the power outage will be contacted with updated information.

Employees are expected to report for their scheduled shifts on the morning of Thursday, June 18, unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.

Classes will resume as normal on Thursday. Any updates will be communicated by school leadership.

The UTMB Galveston Campus is currently experiencing a power outage. Backup power systems are in place, and patient care operations at our hospitals and clinical facilities continue uninterrupted. Crews are actively working to restore power as quickly as possible. We will share updates as more information becomes available.

UTMB continues to monitor a weather system affecting Southeast Texas. The National Weather Service has now placed portions of the region, including Galveston Island, under a Tropical Storm Watch.

The risk of heavy rainfall and flooding remains until Thursday morning. Winds may increase across Galveston Island tomorrow morning into the early afternoon, which could affect travel conditions at times, particularly on bridges and elevated roadways.

Currently, UTMB locations remain open and operating under normal conditions.

Employees should stay in contact with their supervisor/faculty advisor if adverse conditions may affect safe travel to or from UTMB locations.

The University of Texas Medical Branch will commemorate Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026. UTMB Health schools, business areas, administrative offices, and many of UTMB’s clinics will close in honor of the holiday.

All UTMB Health urgent care clinics will be open noon-6 p.m.
