The Art Department offers a comprehensive art program with foundation and advanced level courses in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking; as well as introductory courses for those not majoring in art. The Associate Degree in Fine Art is a cost effective way to begin a college degree and prepares a student for transfer to a four-year program at colleges and universities. Our stude
nts successfully transfer to Massachusetts College of Art and Design, University of Massachusetts, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Montserrat College of Art, Maine College of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Hartford Art School, Boston University, Pratt Institute, and other colleges and universities. The Associate Degree in Fine Art (ART) includes the core general requirements for all state programs giving flexibility to transfer to many different degree programs and has course options to align with MassTransfer program. The ART degree program also includes options to take additional courses in specific medium of interest or interdisciplinary electives to take courses in other media such as video, digital photography, graphic design, digital illustration, etc. Students can gain practical experience in the field through internship electives, service learning, or volunteer opportunities. The Art Department also offers a Liberal Arts Degree with an Art Concentration (LART) that allow the student to minor in Art. This program is ideal for students pursuing a career in an art related field, but not necessarily seeking to be a studio artist. All art faculty are working professional artists and professors dedicated to student success. They actively assist art students with transfer portfolios, college and scholarship applications, and teach the basic digital tools required for success. Small class sizes lead to a close-knit, active and engaged community. The well-equipped studios include large gas and electric kilns, an outdoor ceramic pit firing & raku area, bronze casting, Charles Brand printing presses, and a painting & drawing studio set up for both oil and acrylic painting. Just outside the studios is the East Wing Gallery for hosting annual student exhibitions, alumni and professional art exhibits and other events. In the Art Wing, the Art Dept.'s Permanent Collection of Art by students and alumni is always on exhibit. A student organized Art Club raises money for trips to local galleries, museums, and an annual bus trip to New York City. The Art Department is an integral part of the College and community, offering free Gallery Talks and Artist Lectures, non-credit figure drawing sessions and workshops, and an annual Summer Art Program for Youth & Teens.
