Tennis legend Arthur Ashe stands among the most celebrated Laurel Wreath Laureates in the history of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In 1986, at the 67th Grand Chapter Meeting and Diamond Jubilee Celebration in Indianapolis, Indiana, commemorating 75 years since the Fraternity’s founding at Indiana University Bloomington, Brother Arthur R. Ashe Jr. received the Laurel Wreath, the highest honor Kappa Alpha Psi bestows upon a member, presented by Past Grand Polemarch Hiliary Holloway. Ashe was named the Fraternity’s 39th Laurel Wreath Laureate for achievement in civil rights, recognition of an impact that reached far beyond the baseline. The Richmond, Virginia native and Brother of Upsilon Chapter at UCLA won the 1965 NCAA singles title, became the first Black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team, and made history as the first Black man to win the US Open, the Australian Open, and Wimbledon.

As the 2026 US Open reaches championship weekend inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York, Kappa Alpha Psi salutes the Brother whose name crowns the grandest stage in American tennis and whose legacy remains a cornerstone of Black tennis history.

We’re proud to see Kelly Powers Baria represent Powers & Sons Construction at BMO’s Building Wealth Through Ownership: Creating Enterprise Value, Legacy, and Generational Impact event in celebration of Black Business Month.

Kelly joined fellow business leaders to share her perspective on ownership, sustainable growth, and what it means to carry a family business forward as a third-generation leader.

For Kelly, honoring the generations before her doesn’t mean leading exactly as they did. It means building on the foundation they created while having the confidence to lead in her own way, create new opportunities, and position the business for the generations still to come.

Founding Partners Chet Cameron and Sam Carl of Midwest Injury Lawyers were proud to donate $15,000 to the Calumet Township Trustee’s Office to support food distribution and relief efforts for hundreds of households throughout Calumet Township, which includes much of the City of Gary, the hometown of Founding Partner Chet Cameron.

Many families across the township endured extended power outages, spoiled food, unexpected expenses, property losses, and other financial and personal hardships. We wanted to do something tangible to help families regain their footing.

We are grateful to the Calumet Township Trustee’s Office and everyone involved in getting food and assistance directly to residents who need it.
