This is the official page for the French programme at Indiana University Northwest.

French is spoken officially in 45 countries on 6 continents, representing over 400 million people, making it the second most widely-spoken language in the world. The French programme at IU-Northwest is housed in the Department of Modern Languages. Because French is a small programme, students get close attention from faculty, and this personal mentoring helps them grow and prosper in French as wel

l as in all of their academic studies at the university. As a French minor or major at IU Northwest, students learn to step outside their familiar linguistic framework and familiarity in English and American culture by acquiring and obtaining a different view on the world and a new perspective on global affairs. Because the French language is spoken officially on five continents, and this geographic distribution gives it enormous importance in many facets (cultural, historical, diplomatic, etc). Due to this reality, French students at all levels will learn to recognise and value diverse cultural differences and to understand the world differently. In studying French at IU Northwest, students will be prepared for advanced studies and career opportunities in a limitless range of majors and disciplines. Because IU-Northwest is one of the eight campuses of Indiana University, students have access to a wide-range of study abroad possibilities throughout the French-speaking world and many IU-Northwest students have studied French in Paris and in Québec in past years. These types of study abroad opportunities are covered by financial aid (if the student is receiving it) and students can also compete for various grants and scholarships. IU Northwest also has a chapter of the international French honour society known as Pi Delta Phi, and students are recognised annually for their achievements in French and awarded honours recognition at commencement.

Le saviez-vous (Did you know)? There is a baguette blind taste test contest in Paris every year, &!the winner of this prestigious competition supplies the French president's residence for a year. Two different Sri Lankan immigrants to France won the competition in the last 3 years 🙌🏾
