The Rowan Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights at Rowan University is currently accepting applicants for entry into the 2026/2027 academic year for their one-of-a-kind MA or COGS in Holocaust and Genocide Education.
With equal focus on Holocaust and genocide content, and innovative and effective pedagogies, this graduate program fills a much-needed gap in higher education. The MA is designed for those interested in Holocaust and genocide education broadly, from classroom teachers and curriculum developers, to museum educators, and those interested in working for nonprofits and NGOs. In the program, graduate students will gain deep content knowledge and the ability to implement effective teaching strategies through customized coursework and an applied capstone project. Join us for the screening and discussion of the 2023 documentary “Eldorado: Everything the N***s Hate” directed by Benjamin Cantu. A glittery nightclub in 1920s Berlin becomes a haven for the q***r community in this documentary exploring the freedoms that were lost with Hitler’s rise to power. Through dramatized reenactments, the film focuses on the famed Eldorado nightclub, described as “the most spectacular q***r venue,” and uses the stories of several q***r patrons as case studies. Cantu presents the Eldorado as a symbol of Berlin’s reputation as the “capital of sin” during the Weimar period, when dozens of establishments catered to the city’s growing q***r community. However, the freedoms q***r people experienced in the 1920s were short-lived, giving way to decades of oppression under the N***s and postwar. The Eldorado itself closed in 1933 and, ironically, was later converted into N**i headquarters.

A discussion concerning the importance of this film led by Professor Jody Russell Manning will follow. No longer trapped behind the Iron Curtain – the vibe and life in the Heart of Europe remains intoxicatingly upbeat and its cities are moving fast toward the future.

Join this study abroad trip that will explore fortified castles, medieval feasts, Ruin Bars, Gothic churches, Turkish baths, and cavernous salt mines, as well as make a humbling visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. This 2027 study abroad program offers educational adventures and history unfiltered.

With stays in Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary and taking in numerous cities and sights, we will unpack how culture and memory is shaped and influenced politically, regionally, and internationally. We will also discuss linguistic prose and discover delicious regional cuisine. A once in a lifetime experience, this course will enable students to understand why local and global, mass violence and peace, history and memory, inclusion and exclusion, as well as dictatorship and democracy often coincided: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. (Dickens)”

So proud of our very own Kat D'Amore! Excellent work!

As we say goodbye to our amazing summer intern, Katherine D'Amore, we want to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication in helping catalog and organize our archival collection. Her contributions will have a lasting impact, and we're so grateful for everything she accomplished during her time with us.
We wish Kat all the best as she begins her next chapter at Rowan University. Good luck, Kat! We look forward to welcoming you back to Chhange this winter!
