College of DuPage Field and Experiential Learning/Study Abroad

College of DuPage Field and Experiential Learning/Study Abroad The WORLD is our classroom. Be a fan and find out where we're going and how YOU can join us! Classes are experience based/faculty facilitated.

Field and Experiential Learning is an academic program at COD offering credit courses that combine classroom work with empirical field experience. The instructor's role is largely that of a facilitator who helps learning take place. Courses are grouped into four categories: Weekend and Outdoor, Natural Science, Social Science and Cultural, and International. Classes may be taken in any order or co

mbination. Some students enroll to earn credit toward a degree or certificate; others are interested in learning about or visiting a particular destination. Still others are interested in learning outdoor or wilderness skills. You are welcome, whatever your interests.

Here are a few pics from last week’s workshop on Native American beading. Samantha Thompson, a registered citizen of the Band Potawatomi, shared her heritage and background through the art of beading. Everyone created pieces that followed traditional Potawatomi designs while also adding their own unique touches!

Thanks to the Hooked on Crafts, and Jewelry & Metalsmithing Student Clubs, and the Native American Studies Committee for collaborating on this amazing event!

Congrats to the students of the On-Location TV Production field study course and Advanced Production students (both taught by MPTV instructor Randy King) on their work with Courier TV News to interview Dr. Siddiqi. The interview begins and ends in Urdu/Hindi, and highlights his global story, plus his vision for COD.

In April, we lost our leader, colleague, and friend Maren McKellin, after a brief illness. Her COD story is truly exceptional, and her impact is unique and far-reaching. As a COD student, alongside her studies, Maren served as the editor of The Courier student newspaper. After graduating from college and returning to COD as staff, Maren’s professional path led to her role as Manager of Field and Experiential Learning, Study Abroad and Global Education. Her leadership helped thousands of students and employees on their experiential learning journeys, locally, around the U.S. and across the globe. Maren’s bright smile and infectious (and a little irreverent) sense of humor will be greatly missed.

You are invited to join us in remembering Maren at a gathering on Tuesday, May 19, from 2 to 4pm at the COD McAninch Lakeside Pavillion.

If you wish, you are welcome to wear your Field Studies T‑shirts as a show of support for the programs Maren cared for so deeply.

Please consider helping students “make the world their classroom” by contributing to the Maren McKellin Scholarship for Field Studies and Study Abroad https://foundation.cod.edu/maren-mckellin-scholarship/
