🎨 Emerging from New York City’s vibrant graffiti scene in the late 1970’s, Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) transformed the contemporary art world through his bold and expressive visual language. Describing his work as “royalty, heroism, and the streets,” Basquiat drew inspiration from the cross sections of music, poetry, and culture to challenge audiences to confront issues of identity, race, power, and inequality.

🗽 In honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary, check out the portrait of Jean-Michel Basquiat alongside nine other featured artists at Walking With Giants, a free, outdoor, walkable exhibition on the College of DuPage campus surrounding the MAC.
