"Seeking real freedom and a better future, I came to the United States. The journey was hard, and I lost a beloved family member due to lack of proper medical care. That loss stays with me to this day and motivates me to make the most of every chance to help others in need.

I want to become a skilled nurse who supports people through difficult times. For now, I’m interested in working on medical-surgical hospital floors, where I can learn about many health conditions and help many patients."

ALUMNI STORIES: When Cynthia Zuniga first started college, she was told she would never succeed. She eventually left school, feeling stuck and directionless.

"Then one day, I decided to take a risk and apply to go back to school," she shares.

That risk brought her to College of DuPage, and it changed everything. While balancing two jobs, coursework and volunteering, Cynthia discovered a level of discipline she didn't know she had. Working at the COD Police Service Desk, she built the skills needed to launch her dream career in law enforcement.

Today, she is a graduate, an Outstanding Graduate Finalist, and ready to serve her community.

Mykal is working toward earning HVAC certifications at COD. When he was younger, he took apart TVs and Xbox 360s just to see how they worked, fixed them, and then put them back together. He comes from a small family where not many have had the chance to pursue education.

Through an informal apprenticeship, Mykal has gained on hands-on experience, deepened his understanding of the field, and connect with people in the industry to build valuable relationships for future jobs.

Mykal's future is possible because of scholarship donors like you. Thank you!
