The pottery coming out of Glenville State College during the late 1960s to 1990s was impressive. The catalyst for the endeavor was instructor Charles Scott's dedication and passion, and many alumni have taken these skills much further than would be expected. Do you have any of these pieces in your personal collection? Did you develop your ceramics skills under Mr. Scott or Mr. Harper?

The Trillium is the Language and Literature Department’s annually produced, student literary magazine of Glenville State University. The Library is lucky enough to have a copy of every volume printed since its origin. A link to the issues from 2009-Present is in the comments below.

The Glenville Branch of the West Virginia State Normal School at Marshall was founded 154 years ago tomorrow.

While it would be a few decades before the school appeared as this image shows from 1899, the beginnings of the school came from the passage of Senate Bill 52 on February 19, 1872, written by local representative Preston Pew.

Even though this bill passed and the school was established, the Constitutional Convention of 1872 soon-there-after mandated that no state funds be provided for the operation of any new Normal Schools.

While classes would begin the following January in the old courthouse, 56 citizens of Gilmer County came together to raise the money to purchase the local Lively House property by 1874. This community-secured location would eventually become the location of The Glenville Normal School and still serves the campus today.
