Hello to everybody, happy Wednesday and happy World Kindness Day!

World Kindness Day is exactly what it sounds like: a day to be kind and celebrate acts of generosity and love. This is your opportunity to make somebody's day! From a kind word to a special gift, any act of kindness is an act worth sharing.

We also encourage everybody to stop by our Kindness Week table in the WLC Atrium to leave a positive message on our whiteboard. Help us lift others up through encouragement and care. Stickers and stress balls included!

Even though today is the official day for world kindness, there's never a bad time to show the people around you how much you care. Keep spreading positivity, today, this week, and every week after!

Welcome everybody to week 3 of our Scare Away the Stigma campaign. This week, we're getting spooky.

This Wednesday, we'd like to invite everybody to come out and join us anytime between 10:00 and 2:00 outside of the Student Lounge for our Don't Ghost Your Feelings Wellness Fair! We'll be giving out some not-so-scary treats and providing some much needed atmos-fear!

Like we announced last week, we're reviving our Mental Health Rocks! collaboration with the Academic Skills Center, and, starting today, 31 painted rocks will be placed around campus. They won't be too deviously hidden, but don't expect one to just fall into your hands either! To provide some motivation, we're placing a bounty on all 31 stones. If you see one, hang onto it and turn it in at our table on Wednesday for a reward!

Finally, we'd like to remind everybody once again that October is more than just Halloween. It continues to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and even though its spotlight is still upcoming, ADHD Awareness Month. Enjoy the scary season, but don't forget what else makes this month important!

We know everybody is excited for Fall Break, but that doesn't mean today can't be cause for celebration! In recognition of World Mental Health Day, we've prepared a table full of treats in WLC for any and all who visit! Feel free to stop by and help yourself! Just remember, in the spirit of the season, just take one! 🎃 Even if you don't have time to come to the treats today, keep an eye out, the treats may just find you!

The Scare Away the Stigma ride doesn't stop here though! In one week, Wednesday, Oct. 16th, we'll be hosting our "Don't Ghost Your Feelings Wellness Fair"! As part of the fun, we'll be resurrecting our collaboration with the Academic Skills Center in the form of "Mental Health Rocks!'. Starting Monday, 31 painted rocks will be placed around campus. If you find one, hold onto it! You can bring it to us during the fair in exchange for a special reward!

That's all from us for today, Happy (early) World Mental Health Day!

Hello and welcome to the second week of Scare Away the Stigma! This Thursday is World Mental Health Day, but since every day is a day to shine a spotlight on Mental Health, we're celebrating all week long! Check in with your loved ones, support them through the good and the bad, and keep an eye on your email and our social media pages throughout the week for news about an upcoming campus-wide activity next week!

Also, even though we are spotlighting World Mental Health Day, remember that it is still Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and that we should continue doing everything we can to recognize and prevent domestic violence, along with supporting its victims.

It's October, so Counseling Services invites everybody to join us in scaring away the stigma around mental health all month long! This month is jam packed with important dates and observances, so we've put together a little calendar to keep track of what's coming. Each week, we will highlight a different facet of October's awareness campaigns, because each cause we can spread the word about is another step toward our goal. Keep an eye on your email and social media for more information about upcoming events this month.

This week, we felt it was best to start with a heavier topic. Domestic Violence is an issue that can affect absolutely anybody, and, given the statistics, there's a strong chance that somebody you know has been affected by this at some point in their life. The Domestic Violence Hotline reports that an average of 24 people every single minute are victims of r**e, stalking, or physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States alone. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 3 men have experienced these hostile actions across their lifetime, and nearly half the entire population has experienced some form of psychological aggression. Domestic Violence is real, prevalent, and happens every minute, and on top of that, victims of Domestic Violence are less likely to seek or receive help than victims of other crimes due to the stigma surrounding it and the fear of retribution. One of the most important things you can do is to openly denounce any and all forms of DV.

If you or a loved one is in need of assistance, check out the resources at The National Domestic Violence Hotline. You can also call 1-800-799.SAFE (7233), or text "START" to 88788. Speak up, support the victims, and break through the stigma surrounding this topic. Your friends or family could need your help.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day, a day to recognize efforts around the globe going towards helping people and preventing su***de. For our part, Counseling Services will be partnering with the Academic Skills Center to host a sequel to their Mental Health Rocks! project in April, this time all about su***de awareness. Come join us in the ASC in room 322a anytime from 10am to 12pm to decorate some rocks with inspiring messages, peaceful colors, or any other design that speaks to you. Your artwork has the ability to make somebody's day and make them feel seen, so let's make it happen!

Not that long ago, we let everybody know that September was Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, but this this week it's time to double down and spread the message. In 2022, there were an estimated 1.6 million su***de attempts. That's 1,600,000. Think about what could've changed if any of those people had someone by their side to offer help when they needed it most. Think about how many people who are on a path that could lead toward su***de that can still be helped. This week and every week, show those around you how much you care. Nobody gets left behind. Remember to

Hello to students, faculty, and staff. We hope everybody enjoyed their Labor Day weekend.

With the start of September, Fall is in the air and a vitally important month of Awareness begins. In the United States alone, someone dies by su***de every eleven minutes. On paper alone, it's a frightening statistic, but in practice it's so much more. That person, every eleven minutes, is somebody's friend, sibling, or child. Each and every one of those losses carries with it an immeasurable amount of pain. It is vitally important to remember that su***de CAN be prevented. Sometimes it can be something as simple as a kind word at the right time. This month and every month, reach out to your loved ones and make sure they feel heard, seen, and cared about. A little kindness and care can be the brightest thing in the world to someone who needs help.

Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages throughout the month for more information and reminders about what you can do to help with su***de prevention.
