The Duke Energy Foundation awarded WCC a $10,000 Workforce Development Grant to support our Careers Electric Summer Academy held in partnership with Pitt Electric. ⚡

The electrical wiring pre-apprenticeship program, an initiative of the Siemens Foundation, provides high school students with hands-on training and real-world experience as they learn basic wiring, safety practices, and proper tool usage, all while connecting with local employers and exploring career pathways in the electrical industry.

We appreciate the Duke Energy Foundation's generosity and support of our students as they gain the skills needed to succeed in the workforce.

Oh, nothing... just Billy Bison getting warmed up to receive all the love and appreciation on ! 🦬💙💛

Did you know the bison has been part of the WCC family for more than 50 years? In the late 1960s, students wanted a mascot that was "different and unique." After a campus vote, the bison was chosen, and the beloved Billy Bison name came a few years later when the mascot was placed in the student union during an SGA ceremony in April 1973.

Happy to Billy Bison! Thank you for representing WCC and helping create memorable moments for students, employees, alumni, and community members over the years.

Congratulations to WCC Notary Instructor Zanetta King for being named the 2026 Notary Instructor of the Year by the North Carolina Notary Association! 👏 Ms. King was honored as the award winner at the organization’s annual conference. WCC Notary Instructor Shirley Dupree, who is Ms. King's mother, received the same award last year, making the recognition extra special for their family and our WCC community. 💙💛

Ms. King’s recognition demonstrates her commitment to education and helping others serve their communities. We are proud of her and are grateful to have her as an instructor in our Notary Public Education course!

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has reaffirmed WCC's accreditation to award associate degrees. 👏

The reaffirmation process required WCC to undergo a comprehensive review, including an on-site evaluation by the SACSCOC Reaffirmation Committee. The committee reported no findings or recommendations, showing that WCC remains compliant with SACSCOC standards.

This achievement was made possible through the team effort of our entire campus, and we look forward to offering credentials to students for years to come.

Through the Next NC Scholarship, eligible North Carolinians attending a community college will receive at least $3,000, more than the cost of full-time tuition. Those attending a public university will receive at least $5,000. The scholarship combines the federal Pell Grant with the state-funded financial aid program to form a simplified and predictable scholarship award that’s easier to understand and makes education more affordable for most North Carolinians.

Just fill out the 2026-2027 FAFSA. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive the NextNC Scholarship. There are no additional forms or applications to fill out. Learn more at nextncscholarship.org.
