🐾Tell us why you decided to attend Holmes And your experience there. ~ I chose Holmes Community college because it was close to home, affordable and offered the opportunity to pursue the career I have dreamed about since I was young. Holmes also offered excellent scholarship opportunities based on ACT scores, which made attending college even more accessible. My experience at Holmes was incredibly meaningful. It gave me the education and foundation I needed to begin my career in paramedicine, while also allowing me to remain close to my family and community I called home. Looking back , choosing Holmes was one of the best decisions I could have made.
🐾What degree did you receive and how are you using that now? I earned an Associate in applied science and became a Paramedic through Holmes community college. I later continued my education and became a Critical Care Paramedic. For the past 11 years, I have had the privilege of using the education and training as a Critical Care Paramedic with the University of Mississippi Medical Center AirCare. My education at Holmes provided the foundation that allowed me to pursue the career I have dreamed of since I was a teenager.
🐾What is your favorite memory from your time at Holmes? One of my favorite memories is everything surrounding the Critical Care paramedic program. It challenged me to expand my knowledge and pushed me to become a better clinician. The program opened my eyes to how much there was still to learn and gave me the confidence and knowledge to take the next step in my career. The relationships I built and the experiences I had during the time have stayed with me throughout my career.
🐾What advice would you give to students who are seeking a similar career path? Work hard and never quit learning. Challenge yourself to be the best that you can be. In Critical Care paramedicine, people's lives can literally be in your hands. Our patients deserve nothing less than your very best. Medicine is constantly changing, so never become comfortable with what you already know or what you have always done. Continue learning, continue asking questions and always strive to improve. Most importantly, remember why you chose this career in the first place: to make a difference in someone's life when they need you the most.
🐾Share with us what you are doing now and a little about your family. ~ I am currently a Critical Care paramedic with AirCare - University of Mississippi Medical Center, where I have been fortunate enough to work for the past 11 years. AirCare has been my dream job since I was around 14 years old. I still remember the first time i saw the helicopter land on the scene of one of our volunteer fire department calls. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be part of that world and I have been hooked ever since. I am happily married to my husband, Michael David and we have been married for 10 years. Michael also attended Holmes Community College and was in the Critical care program the same time I was. Today, he also works for AirCare, so we have been fortunate enough to build careers we both love while working alongside each other. I am incredibly grateful for the path that brought me from a young girl with a dream of working in emergency medicine to where I am today. Holmes Community College played a major role in making that dream possible, and I am proud to be a Holmes Alumni.
