For students coming straight from high school, Pamlico CC offers a location that is close to home, friends, and family. Additionally, many recent high school graduates are unsure of their next steps. Due to the small size, faculty advisors at PCC are able to work with each student individually, allowing the student to enter a program or degree that best aligns with his/her interests. For working adults deciding to continue their education, one of the benefits of attending PCC is also location. Many working adults have the responsibilities associated with a family, career, and school, PCC’s location provides a better opportunity for those students to effectively balance such responsibilities. Pamlico’s Shellie Saxby and Carmen Kludy attended the Student Life Professionals Summer Summit June 4-5 at the N.C. Community College System’s office in Raleigh. The two-day session, which was organized by the Student Life Advisory Board, offered participants some fresh ideas, practical tools, and valuable vendor connections in a welcoming environment. Sessions focused on helping participants build, plan, and strengthen their 2026–27 programming calendars, ensuring attendees left with resources and ideas they could immediately put into action. Saxby, the college’s director of admissions/recruiter, said, “We gained several valuable ideas and connections that will help enhance student engagement efforts and future programming at Pamlico Community College.”

DeLante’ Grant has spent much of his life overcoming personal challenges and standing out from the crowd. Some of his challenges stemmed from poor decisions he made in his youth. Others, such as a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the loss of vision in his left eye, he had no control over. Whatever the obstacle, Grant has always persevered, battling each challenge with the goal of emerging stronger and better afterward. The next edition of Pamlico’s popular Nurse Aide I course is scheduled to begin Monday, June 15. The accelerated course will be offered in a hybrid format, with Monday and Wednesday daytime classes on campus and other coursework online. There also is an off-site clinical component. The college will offer an eight-week course on the basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its uses in everyday life. The course is open to retirees, working professionals, small business owners, and anyone interested in the exciting new technology. The college will host a free Cosmetology-themed STEM Day Camp for rising sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders June 22-25 at the Cosmetology Building in Bayboro! Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Styled by Science camp will feature hands-on activities that demonstrate how science can be used to improve the appearance of hair and skin. The camp is limited to 20 students. Lunch and supplies will be provided. A grant from NC STEM East is supporting the camp. The big day is almost here! The college will host its 2026 Commencement Exercises this Friday, May 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Delamar Center. NCSU Distinguished Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Ian Bruck will give the Commencement address. One hundred twenty-four men and women in the college’s curriculum and Continuing Education programs have qualified for recognition over the last year. Those students have earned a combined 202 academic and Continuing Education credentials, including 36 associate degrees, 13 diplomas, 75 certificates and 78 Continuing Education recognitions.
