Theta Alpha Phi, the Theatre Honorary Society, would like to invite all students looking to fill time during remote learning to take part in a playwriting challenge!

Inspired by Paula Vogel’s Playwriting Bake Offs and the Quarantine Playwriting Bake Off national challenge created by UMN/Guthrie Theatre BFA Acting students, TAP is encouraging students across Denison’s campus to write short plays, 10 - 30 pages maximum, to be read live over Zoom by Theatre students.

Here’s how it will work: TAP will send you 5 “ingredients” to put in an original short play (10 - 30 pages) and you have one week to write your play. Never written before? Published playwright? Somewhere in between? No worries! We encourage any students at Denison to participate! There is no experience required, but we encourage risk and fun. There will be no critiques, just an opportunity to enjoy each other’s work together! Email [email protected] to participate!

ATTENTION students thinking about pursuing careers in the theatre, film, and entertainment industries as actors, directors, writers, etc... There are 2 exciting opportunities are coming up this weekend/next week that are not to be missed!!!

1) Saturday, November 3rd 11-2pm in the Ace Morgan theatre. You MUST RSVP to Mark Evans Bryan at [email protected]. You are invited to join Eleni Papaleonardos and Ian Short of Available Light Theatre for a 3-hour workshop and question and answer panel about making your life as a working actor. Whether you are looking ahead to graduation or thinking about summer work, get your questions answered about resumes, agents, Equity, auditioning, finding monologues, graduate school, internships/apprenticeships, contracts and more.

2) Monday, November 5th 7-10pm in the Bryan Arts Center, Lighting Studio Room 208. FREE Actor/ Entertainment Industry Professional Headshot Photo Shoot that you can use for auditions, casting calls, interviews, and more! Simply show up dressed in "Headshot Attire" (see the article below on what that means.) There will be a Peer Advisor available to review theatre/entertainment industry resumes during the event for students who wish to also refine their resumes. You must RSVP to this event via Handshake.
