Making a Difference in COVID Times:
Positive Experiences and Contributions as a Medical Interpreter
This year the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives forever. Despite the multiple challenges faced by our Interpreter community they have responded as frontline heroes. Now more than ever, it is important to recognize our exceptional medical interpreters and let them know we will come through this together. We at NBCMI/IMIA are here for our interpreters and pleased to announce the NBCMI Scholarship Program.
In 2009, the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters was founded as the very first organization to offer certification for medical interpreters. Since then, we have expanded and currently offer full certification in SIX languages: Russian, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Spanish.
To celebrate our medical interpreters for their resiliency and hard work during these unprecedented times, the National Board will award five (5) full scholarships that will include registration, written and oral exam, and badge. In recognition of all 5 regions in the United States, and the vital role each region plays, there will be one scholarship awarded per region.

Eligibility criteria:
Must submit required prerequisites for certification.
Complete the application and submit it before December 15, 2020 together with all required prerequisite documentation.
Write a 700-word essay about Making a Difference in Pandemic Times: Positive Experiences and Contributions as a Medical Interpreter.
Must submit a current (no more than a year old) letter of recommendation.
Must submit proof of employment during the pandemic.
* This is a Full scholarship including registration, written and oral exams, and a badge. Those who have already registered or passed the written exam do not qualify.
Recipients will be notified via email by January 20, 2021. This offer will expire after one year, is non-transferable, and cannot be redeemed for cash or substituted for other services (e.g., recertification, retests).
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: ONLY FULLY COMPLETED APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY THE DEADLINE OF DECEMBER 15, 2020 WILL BE CONSIDERED. ANY INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED.
